Tehran seeks clear statement from Dhaka
Iran’s ambassador to Bangladesh, Jalil Rahimi Jahanabadi, has expressed Tehran’s dissatisfaction with Dhaka’s recent statement on the ongoing Middle East conflict, urging the Bangladeshi government to issue a clearer condemnation of the aggressor forces.
Speaking at a press conference at the Iranian Embassy in Dhaka, Ambassador Jahanabadi said, “We were disappointed by the statement issued by the Bangladesh government on the Iran issue. The statement should have been more explicit. Bangladesh is a Muslim country. As our brother, we expected it to condemn the aggressor forces in Iran—but that did not happen. This is painful for us” on Wednesday (April 1).
Asked whether Iran would send a formal letter to Dhaka expressing its dissatisfaction, the ambassador said no such letter would be issued. “However, I will raise the matter if I get a chance to meet the Prime Minister,” he added.
He also noted that as a member of the United Nations and the Organization of Islamic Cooperation, Bangladesh could have condemned the aggressor forces in Iran. “Even Russia and China, though not Muslim countries, have expressed condemnation,” he said.
