Telefilm ‘Joltungi’ on racial bias set to air soon
A new telefilm, 'Joltungi', highlighting the harsh realities of racial discrimination against women, is set to air soon on a private television channel in Bangladesh.
Written by Afrin Jesica and directed by Rahim Sumon, the production is presented by Anindya Production House, with producers Zulfikar Chanchal and Mohammad Sakawat Hossain.
The telefilm features performances by Naznin Hasan, Dilara Jaman, Hamidur Rahman, Ishika Sakin, Abhi Pramanik, Imamur Rashid Khan, Ratan Siddiqui, among others.
Filming took place across various locations in Dhaka, with cinematography by Sakhayet Hossain Sakib, editing and colour grading by Studio Cut & Colour, and background music composed by Zahid Hasan Anon. Art direction was handled by Charu Pintu, costume design by Farhin Haque, makeup by Md. Riman, under the overall supervision of Tamanna Akhi.
'Joltungi' centers on Jaya, a confident and independent woman, whose life is affected by societal prejudice against her dark skin. The storyline follows her struggles within her family, including her husband Asif and their daughter Tusi, who grows up distanced from her mother due to societal and familial biases. As Tusi returns at 18, she attempts to reconcile with her mother, reflecting on the deep-rooted racial discrimination that persists in society, media, workplaces, and even at birth.
The telefilm delivers a powerful message: social and mental chains must be broken to overcome discrimination, and staying true to one’s identity is key. Rahim Sumon, known for directing popular dramas such as 'Bonshoprodip', 'Ekaki', 'Priyo Phool Tumi', 'Godhuli’r Alo', 'Mamla Motin', 'Bhalobashi Bhalobashi', and 'Chhaya Hoye Theko', hopes 'Joltungi' will resonate positively with viewers.
