Thailand and Cambodia have agreed to hold immediate ceasefire talks following three days of deadly clashes along their border, US President Donald Trump announced Saturday.

The fighting, the worst between the two neighbors in 13 years, has left more than 30 dead and displaced over 130,000 people.

Thailand’s acting Prime Minister Phumtham Wechayachai thanked Trump for his mediation efforts and said Thailand “agrees in principle” to a ceasefire but urged “sincere intention” from Cambodia.

Trump, posting from Scotland, said he warned both leaders that continued border disputes could threaten future trade with the United States.

“Both parties are looking for an immediate ceasefire and peace,” Trump wrote, detailing his diplomatic intervention.

Phumtham also asked Trump to convey Thailand’s desire to begin bilateral talks soon to establish concrete steps for a ceasefire and a peaceful resolution.

Despite the announcement, clashes continued, with both sides accusing each other of self-defense and calling for the other to cease hostilities.

The United Nations expressed deep concern. UN Secretary-General António Guterres urged both countries to “immediately agree to a ceasefire” and resolve disputes through dialogue, according to Deputy UN spokesperson Farhan Haq.

Details of the planned ceasefire negotiations have yet to be disclosed.
