The political uncertainty in Tamil Nadu has ended, with actor-turned-politician Thalapathy Vijay receiving formal approval to form the government. After a meeting with Governor Rajendra Arlekar at the Raj Bhavan in Chennai on Friday evening, he was invited to form the government.

Vijay, the TVK chief, will take oath as Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu at 11:00 am on Saturday.

According to an India Today report, this was the third meeting between the governor and Vijay in the last three days. The governor granted him formal permission to form the government after he submitted documents proving the support of 118 MLAs, the majority mark required in the 234-member assembly.

TVK won 107 seats in the election. With support from 5 Congress MLAs, 2 CPI MLAs, 2 CPI(M) MLAs, and 2 VCK MLAs, Vijay's alliance secured exactly 118 seats.

The CPI(M) stated that it extended unconditional support in the interest of political stability and out of respect for public opinion.

There had been intense speculation over government formation in Tamil Nadu since the election results were announced. Ultimately, Vijay cleared the path to form the government with the support of anti-BJP and regional parties. Analysts believe his government will herald a new chapter in Tamil Nadu politics.
