Veteran Hollywood filmmaker Christopher Nolan's 'The Odyssey' is now the name of a new history. Within just 57 days of its theatrical release, the film has set the record as the highest-grossing movie in the 114-year history of production company Universal Pictures.

According to Universal Pictures, after 57 days of release, 'The Odyssey's total worldwide earnings stand at $1.68 billion. Of this, $601.2 million came from the North American market and $1.083 billion from international markets. With this, 'The Odyssey' has broken the $1.67 billion record of Universal's popular 2015 film 'Jurassic World' to take the top spot.

The film is based on the nearly 3,000-year-old epic by Greek poet Homer. Since its release, Nolan's film has received an overwhelming response from audiences worldwide. 'The Odyssey' has claimed several records beyond Universal's history.

It is the first film not a sequel or remake to earn more than $1 billion in the international market since 2009. It has also set records as the highest-grossing R-rated film in world cinema history and the highest-grossing film in IMAX format.

'The Odyssey' is also the most successful film of Nolan's career. Previously, his highest-grossing film was 'The Dark Knight Rises', which earned over $1 billion worldwide. This is Nolan's second major success after leaving Warner Bros and joining Universal Pictures. Earlier, his 'Oppenheimer', released under the same banner in 2023, earned nearly $983 million worldwide and won seven Academy Awards.
