'The Sopranos' star Vincent Pastore passes away

Veteran American actor Vincent Pastore, best known for his acclaimed portrayal of Salvatore "Big Pussy" Bonpensiero in HBO's landmark crime drama The Sopranos, has died at the age of 80.

His death was confirmed Saturday (August 1) by longtime manager Bob McGowan, who told The Associated Press that he learned of the actor's passing from fellow The Sopranos cast member Vincent Curatola.

According to McGowan, Pastore had been unreachable for several days before he was found dead at his home in City Island, New York. The manager said he had been trying to contact the actor to discuss a new project when he received the news of his death.

No official cause of death was immediately announced.

Reflecting on their years together, McGowan described Pastore as one of his most trusted clients, praising his generosity and commitment to charitable causes.

"He was always willing to help others and quietly supported numerous charitable organizations throughout his life," McGowan said.

Veteran talent representative Robert Atterman, who represented Pastore for more than three decades before The Sopranos, said the actor's legacy extended far beyond the role that made him a household name.

"While audiences will always remember him as Big Pussy, Vincent built a remarkable and diverse career across film and television, bringing authenticity and depth to every performance," Atterman said in a statement.

Pastore earned widespread recognition for his portrayal of tough, streetwise characters, particularly in crime dramas, but his career spanned decades and included numerous film and television appearances that showcased his versatility.

News of his death prompted an outpouring of tributes from fellow actors, industry colleagues and fans, many of whom remembered him not only for his memorable performances but also for his warmth, humility and generosity off screen.
