Actress Farin Khan has shared a frightening experience she allegedly faced while travelling to Jamalpur earlier this month, saying she feared she could have been robbed, killed, or sexually assaulted if she had not screamed for help in time.

In a social media post, the actress described the incident and the mental trauma she experienced afterward on Friday afternoon (May 22).

Recalling the incident, Farin wrote that on May 13, around 3:15am, she stopped at a petrol station on the way to Jamalpur to use the restroom.

“A few minutes after entering, I suddenly felt that someone was standing behind me. When I turned around, I saw two hands coming through the ventilator right near my neck,” she wrote.

She said she immediately screamed and rushed out of the washroom.

“Had I not screamed in time, they might have killed me, looted everything, and even attempted to rape me,” the actress wrote.

According to Farin, her driver rushed toward the restroom after hearing her screams. Although he tried to catch the man, the suspect managed to flee.

Later, the driver told her that he had seen the man going behind the restroom carrying several eggshells and initially assumed he was going there to dispose of garbage.

Farin said that while she tried to appear brave outwardly, she was deeply shaken internally.

“My screams made him realise that something had happened. Maybe from the outside I tried to stay strong, but I cannot describe in words how terrified I was inside,” she wrote.

The actress also said she later shared the incident with members of her shooting unit the following day.

“I initially thought I would not tell anyone about it. But later I shared it with many people in the shooting unit. I have rarely experienced something more terrifying in my life,” she added.

Farin further wrote that women working outside their homes regularly face various forms of harassment and insecurity.

“In a country where women are judged by their clothing, incidents like attempted rape are often blamed on women themselves. There has hardly been any example in Bangladesh’s history where justice was delivered strongly enough to stop such crimes out of fear,” she wrote.

She concluded her post by saying that women in Bangladesh still do not feel safe.
