This is indeed a golden age of America: Trump in UN speech
US President Donald Trump claimed at the UN General Assembly session that the USA is now in a 'golden age'. This is the first time he has spoken on the UN stage in New York since 2020.
At the beginning of his speech, Trump criticized the previous US administration and said that his predecessors had pushed the country into one disaster after another. However, under his leadership, the United States has once again become the most talked about and respected country in the world in the eight months of his second term.
He said: "This is undoubtedly America's golden age." After imposing high tariffs on products from different countries around the world, he claimed that historic trade agreements have been signed with many countries including the United Kingdom, European Union countries, Japan, South Korea, and Vietnam.
Trump also said that it was his initiative that NATO member states increased defense spending from 2% to 5% of GDP. He also mentioned that partnerships with Saudi Arabia, Qatar and the United Arab Emirates in the Gulf region have also been strengthened.
Calling the United Nations ineffective, Trump said: "The United Nations is not working to its potential. Their rhetoric is empty, and empty words do not solve wars." He also took a dig at the broken escalators and teleprompters at the UN headquarters.
Presenting himself as an ambassador for peace, Trump claimed that seven international conflicts have ended under his leadership - including the Cambodia-Thailand, Kosovo-Serbia, Pakistan-India, Israel-Iran, Egypt-Ethiopia, Armenia-Azerbaijan and Congo-Rwanda conflicts.
Regarding the ongoing ceasefire in Gaza, Trump said that the negotiating parties must reach an agreement this time. Warning against recognizing Palestine as a state, he said: "This is the reward for Hamas' atrocities. Rather, all those who want peace must unite and demand the release of the hostages."
