Thomas Dooley appointed as Bangladesh National Football Team Head Coach
The long-anticipated appointment of the new head coach of the Bangladesh national football team has been confirmed, with German-born American coach Thomas Dooley taking charge of the side.
The Bangladesh Football Federation (BFF) announced the development on Friday morning (May 22) through its official Facebook page, confirming that the 65-year-old tactician has already arrived in Dhaka after completing his contract formalities.
Dooley, a former United States international, brings more than four decades of football experience as both player and coach. During his playing career, he represented the United States men's national soccer team at the 1994 and 1998 FIFA World Cups.
He later worked as assistant coach of the U.S. national team under Jürgen Klinsmann from 2011 to 2014 before taking on head coaching roles abroad.
One of his notable achievements came with the Philippines national football team, where he guided the side to their first-ever AFC Asian Cup qualification and helped achieve their highest FIFA ranking in history.
Most recently, Dooley served as head coach of the Guyana national football team, where he led the team to four consecutive victories during his tenure.
BFF officials said the appointment aims to strengthen Bangladesh’s national team by developing young talent and building a more competitive squad.
According to federation sources, Dooley is expected to begin his work with the national camp as early as Sunday.
His first assignment is likely to come on June 5, when Bangladesh are scheduled to face San Marino in a friendly match during their European tour.
