Three mild earthquakes struck areas near Bangladesh's eastern and northern borders within less than an hour early Monday (June 29). The tremors originated in India's Manipur, the Arunachal Pradesh–Bhutan border, and Meghalaya, adjacent to Sunamganj, between 4:00 am and 5:00 am.

According to India's official earthquake monitoring agency, the first quake struck Manipur at 4:12 am. It measured 3.5 on the Richter scale and originated at a depth of 59 kilometres.

Just five minutes later, at 4:17 am, a second earthquake measuring 3.0 struck the Arunachal Pradesh–Bhutan border. Its epicentre was only 7 kilometres below the surface, making it a very shallow earthquake in geological terms.

The third tremor occurred at 5:05 am in India's Meghalaya state, near the northern border of Sunamganj district. It measured 2.9 on the Richter scale and originated at a depth of 10 kilometres.

The series of mild tremors was lightly felt in parts of Bangladesh's northern and eastern regions close to the border.

Earlier, at around 9:45 pm on Sunday, a relatively stronger earthquake was felt in several parts of southeastern Bangladesh, including Cox's Bazar. According to the European-Mediterranean Seismological Centre (EMSC), the quake measured 4.4 on the Richter scale and had its epicentre near the Cox's Bazar–Myanmar border.

Although the consecutive earthquakes within a span of several hours caused concern among residents in the affected areas, no casualties or damage have been reported so far.
