Three killed as helicopter crashes in Los Angeles suburb
Three people were killed after a helicopter crashed in the Chatsworth area of suburban Los Angeles on Tuesday evening (September 15), according to the Los Angeles Fire Department.
The crash took place shortly before 7pm (local time) at the intersection of Larline Avenue and Nordhoff Street, with the helicopter coming down between two commercial buildings.
One injured person was taken to a nearby hospital, although their condition was not immediately known, according to local authorities.
The crash triggered a fire at the scene, with footage showing flames engulfing two cargo containers and several vehicles. Firefighters later brought the blaze under control.
The pilot’s identity was not immediately released. Local media reported that the helicopter was being used for news coverage and had been flying near the scene of a serious bus crash shortly before the incident.
Los Angeles police said the helicopter was not operated by the department. The National Transportation Safety Board will lead the investigation into the cause of the crash.
