World-renowned golfer Tiger Woods has been arrested following a road accident near his home in Florida.

The accident took place on Friday (March 27), according to a report by BBC News.

Police said Woods’ vehicle collided with a truck while attempting to overtake on a residential road, causing his car to overturn. However, he was not seriously injured in the crash.

Martin County Sheriff John Budensiek said Woods showed “signs consistent with impairment by drugs or medication,” although he passed a breathalyzer test.

Authorities added that Woods refused to undergo a urine test. “When we asked him to provide a urine sample, he declined,” the sheriff said. He has been charged with driving under the influence (DUI), property damage, and refusal to comply with a lawful test.

Officials said it may never be definitively known what, if anything, impaired Woods at the time of the crash.

No injuries were reported for either Woods or the truck driver, though authorities noted the incident could have been far more serious.

Woods previously survived a car crash in California in 2021, which left him with significant injuries and required a lengthy recovery.

One of golf’s most decorated players, Woods has won 15 major championships, including Masters titles in 1997 and 2019.
