Tigers arrive in Mackay ahead of second Test against Australia
Bangladesh national cricket team have arrived in Mackay, nearly 3,000 kilometres from Darwin, after completing a long journey following their emphatic nine-wicket victory over Australia in the first Test in Darwin.
The second and final Test of the series is scheduled to begin in Mackay on August 22.
Chief selector Habibul Bashar Sumon, who is travelling with the squad, said the players were tired after the journey. The team left Darwin in the morning and reached their hotel in Mackay at around 8:30pm (local time) after multiple flights and lengthy waits.
Bashar also noted that Mackay’s weather was slightly cooler than Darwin’s.
Located near the Great Barrier Reef, Mackay has hosted international cricket before, including a 1992 World Cup match and two ODIs between Australia and South Africa in 2025. The venue has also staged several women’s international matches.
However, the city has never hosted a Test match. The Bangladesh-Australia second Test will therefore mark the venue’s debut as an Australian Test ground.
