Tigers return home after landmark Test triumph over Australia

Bangladesh national cricket team returned home on Friday night (August 28) after a landmark Australia tour that saw the Tigers secure their first-ever Test victory on Australian soil and announce themselves as a growing force in overseas cricket.

They arrived in Dhaka following a historic 1-1 draw in the two-match Test series against Australia. Tigers stunned the hosts by nine wickets in the opening Test in Darwin before suffering a heavy defeat in the second match in Mackay.

The series result marked a significant achievement for Bangladesh cricket, particularly after their dominant performance in Darwin, where they outplayed Australia and completed the victory with authority.

Speaking to reporters at the airport, national team pace bowling coach Talha Zubair said the triumph had boosted the team’s belief and sent a message to world cricket about Bangladesh’s ability to compete with the strongest sides.

“Beating Australia is a huge thing for us. It sends a message to world cricket that we can beat any team,” Talha said.

He credited Bangladesh’s pace attack for playing a key role in the historic success, stressing that taking 20 wickets is essential to winning Tests away from home.

The Tigers, however, missed the opportunity to clinch their first Test series in Australia after collapsing for under 100 in both innings of the second Test. Talha said Bangladesh’s batting failure, along with the conditions and the toss, played a decisive role in the Mackay defeat.

Despite that setback, the Australia tour has given Bangladesh valuable experience and confidence ahead of their upcoming international assignments.

Talha said the team had travelled to Australia with the belief that it could win and praised the players for adapting well to the conditions before the opening Test.

For Bangladesh, the Darwin victory now stands as one of the most significant milestones in their Test history—and the Tigers returned home carrying the confidence of having achieved what had long seemed beyond reach.
