Towhid Hridoy's bat creates new history, now aims for the national team

Towhid Hridoy has made history with his bat on South African soil. The batter set a new record for the highest individual innings in Bangladeshi first-class cricket by scoring a triple century against South Africa 'A' in the four-day match in Potchefstroom . However, despite this extraordinary achievement, Hridoy does not want to stop. He now dreams of playing such a big innings in the national team's jersey as well.

On the fourth day of the match, the 25-year-old Hridoy reached the triple-century milestone, facing 450 balls. He ended up playing a magnificent innings of 350 runs . His innings included 25 fours and 6 sixes. With this innings, Hridoy created a new record for the highest individual score in Bangladeshi first-class cricket .

Previously, the highest individual innings by any Bangladeshi batter was by Tamim Iqbal. In 2020, playing for the East Zone against the Central Zone in the Bangladesh Cricket League, Tamim had scored an unbeaten 334 off 426 balls . Hridoy's innings of 350 runs has now pushed that record to second place .

Before Hridoy, the batters who scored triple centuries for Bangladesh in first-class cricket included Tamim and Raqibul Hasan. In the 2006-07 season of the National Cricket League, Raqibul had played an unbeaten innings of 313 runs for the Barisal Division .

After the record-breaking innings, Hridoy shared his feelings on social media. Even with the Man of the Match trophy in hand, he felt the urge to play such an innings for the national team one day. Hridoy wrote, "Holding the Man of the Match trophy, I kept thinking that one day, InshaAllah, I will play such an innings for the national team. With Allah's blessings and my mother's prayers, anything is possible."

Tamim Iqbal also congratulated Hridoy on this feat. Expressing joy at his own record being broken, the former captain said that an innings of 350 runs is extraordinary at any level. And if it comes on South African soil, the achievement becomes even more special .
