Trial of Ramisa murder case to begin on June 1
A Dhaka court has set June 1 for the hearing on framing charges against Sohail Rana and his wife Swapna Akter in the case of raping and murdering eight-year-old Ramisa in Pallabi, Mirpur.
Dhaka Metropolitan Child Violence Suppression Tribunal Judge Masrur Salekin passed the order on Sunday afternoon, May 24, after taking cognisance of the charges against the accused.
Earlier in the day, the investigation officer, Pallabi Police Station Sub-Inspector Ahiduzzaman, submitted the charge sheet against the couple to the Chief Metropolitan Magistrate Court in Dhaka. Metropolitan Magistrate Ashraful Haque's court accepted the charge sheet and ordered the case transferred to the tribunal for trial.
Ramisa was a second-grade student of Popular Model High School. On May 19, around 9:30 am, Swapna lured the child into her room. Around 10:30 am, the victim's mother began searching for her after she did not go to school. She saw the child's shoes near the accused's room. Receiving no response after calling out, neighbours and the victim's parents broke down the door and found the child's headless body on the bedroom floor, with her head in a large bucket.
Police detained Swapna at the scene after a call to 999. With the help of information technology, police arrested Sohail from in front of Fatullah Police Station in Narayanganj.
The victim's father, Abdul Hannan Molla, filed the case at Pallabi Police Station on Wednesday.
