Trump administration rejects discussion proposal to halt Iran war
The administration of US President Donald Trump has clearly rejected mediation efforts by several Middle Eastern countries aimed at halting the ongoing conflict involved Iran-US-Israel.
According to a report by Reuters, both Washington and Tehran remain firmly committed to continuing the fight.
A senior White House official confirmed that weakening Iran’s military capabilities further remains the administration’s primary objective.
On the Iranian side, the country’s new supreme leader Mojtaba Khamenei and the powerful Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) have stated that no ceasefire or negotiations will be considered unless the attacks stop.
Tensions escalated further after a US strike on Iran’s main oil export hub at Kharg Island late Friday. In response, Tehran reportedly moved to shut down the strategically vital Strait of Hormuz.
The disruption has already pushed global oil prices sharply higher.
The confrontation, which began two weeks ago, has so far left more than 2,000 people dead, the majority of them Iranian civilians.
Rising fuel prices in the United States have also triggered concern within the Republican Party.
With the upcoming midterm elections approaching, some within the administration have urged a swift end to the conflict.
However, a significant faction is pressing for continued military operations until Iran’s nuclear and missile programmes are fully dismantled.
Meanwhile, several regional countries, including Oman, are continuing efforts to create a pathway for ceasefire talks.
Iran’s senior security official Ali Larijani and Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi reportedly attempted to establish contact with US Vice President JD Vance through Omani mediation.
However, Washington has not responded to the proposal, leaving diplomatic channels largely stalled for now.
