Trump announces 10-day Lebanon–Israel ceasefire
US President Donald Trump has announced a 10-day ceasefire between Lebanon and Israel, saying both sides have agreed to the temporary truce aimed at paving the way for broader peace efforts.
In a post on his social media platform Truth Social, Trump said he held “important discussions” with Lebanese President Joseph Aoun and Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu.
According to Trump, the two leaders have “formally agreed to initiate a 10-day ceasefire” to advance efforts toward establishing peace between their countries.
He also said that representatives from Lebanon and Israel met in Washington, DC, on Tuesday for the first time, with US Secretary of State Marco Rubio in attendance.
Trump added that Vice President JD Vance, Secretary Rubio and Joint Chiefs of Staff Chairman Gen. Dan Caine have been tasked with working with both sides to help advance a permanent peace process.
The US president further claimed he has previously helped resolve nine conflicts worldwide and expressed hope that this initiative would become his tenth successful mediation effort.
