Trump calls for a ‘real end’ to Iran nuclear issue amid Israel-Iran conflict
US President Donald Trump expressed his desire for a “real end” to the nuclear dispute with Iran and suggested that senior American officials might be sent to meet with the Islamic Republic as the Israel-Iran air conflict entered its fifth day.
Trump made these remarks during his midnight departure from Canada, where he had attended the Group of Seven (G7) summit on Monday, according to a CBS News reporter’s social media post on platform X.
Predicting that Israel would not ease its attacks on Iran, Trump said, “You’re going to find out over the next two days. Nobody’s slowed up so far,” as quoted by the CBS journalist on Air Force One.
When asked about the possibility of sending US Middle East Envoy Steve Witkoff or Vice President JD Vance to negotiate with Iran, Trump responded, “I may.”
Washington maintains that Trump is still pursuing a nuclear deal with Iran, despite the ongoing military confrontation.
World leaders at the G7 summit called for a de-escalation in what has become the worst conflict between the regional rivals, describing Iran as a source of instability that must never acquire a nuclear weapon, while reaffirming Israel’s right to self-defense.
Trump left the summit early due to the escalating Middle East situation and denied reports suggesting his departure was connected to negotiating a ceasefire between Israel and Iran. French President Emmanuel Macron had claimed the US initiated a ceasefire proposal.
“Wrong! He has no idea why I am now on my way to Washington, but it certainly has nothing to do with a Cease Fire. Much bigger than that,” Trump wrote on his Truth Social platform late Monday.
Israel launched its air campaign with a surprise attack that reportedly killed nearly the entire top echelon of Iran’s military commanders and leading nuclear scientists. Israel claims control over Iranian airspace and plans to intensify the campaign in the coming days.
Trump has repeatedly said the Israeli assault could end quickly if Iran agrees to US demands for strict limitations on its nuclear program.
“Simply stated, IRAN CANNOT HAVE A NUCLEAR WEAPON. I said it over and over again! Everyone should immediately evacuate Tehran!” Trump warned on Monday.
In response, Iran’s Revolutionary Guards announced on Tuesday that a “more powerful” new wave of missiles was launched toward Israel, according to state media. A senior Iranian army commander also said a new wave of drones would strike Israel.
Meanwhile, three people were killed and four injured in the central Iranian city of Kashan following an Israeli attack, Iran’s Nournews reported on Tuesday.
