U.S. President Donald Trump has claimed that eight warplanes were downed during the May conflict between India and Pakistan—one more than previously reported.

He made the claim at a business forum in Miami on Wednesday (November 5), reports BBC.

Trump said, “Seven aircraft were shot down, but another was severely damaged—so, effectively, eight were lost.”

He added that his administration had applied trade pressure on both sides to bring about a ceasefire, after which they agreed to peace.

India dismissed Trump’s remarks, saying the ceasefire resulted from its own diplomatic efforts.

Pakistan, however, maintains that seven Indian aircraft were destroyed, while India admits to losing six.

The clash followed an April 22 attack in Kashmir that killed 26 people. A U.S.-brokered ceasefire was reached on May 10. Analysts say Trump’s latest comments reflect data ambiguity and personal interpretation, potentially complicating ties between the two nuclear-armed neighbours.
