Trump hikes tariff on all countries from 10pc to 15pc
US President Donald Trump has announced an increase in temporary reciprocal tariffs on all countries from 10 per cent to 15 per cent. The announcement came hours after the Supreme Court struck down tariffs he had imposed last year.
In a post on Truth Social, Trump wrote, "As President of the United States, I am announcing that our 10 per cent import tariff on all countries is being increased to 15 per cent effective today. Many countries have been ripping off the United States for years without any accountability (until I came to power!). This additional duty will now be enforced by law."
According to US law, the 15 per cent tariff will remain in effect for the next 150 days. Trump said his administration will work to make it permanent and legally valid.
Last year, Trump imposed reciprocal tariffs on all countries under the International Emergency Economic Powers Act (IEEPA), which increased prices of many products in the US. The court ruled that Trump exceeded his authority and should have sought congressional approval before imposing the tariffs.
