US President Donald Trump may visit Pakistan in September, according to reports by two Pakistani television channels on Thursday, potentially marking the first visit by a sitting U.S. president to the country in nearly two decades.

The reports suggest that Trump is expected to travel to Islamabad before proceeding to India, reports Reuters.

However, Pakistan's Foreign Office said it had no official confirmation of the visit at this stage.

"We are not aware of any scheduled visit by the U.S. President," a spokesperson for the Ministry of Foreign Affairs told reporters in Islamabad.

If confirmed, the visit would be the first by a U.S. president to Pakistan since George W. Bush's trip in 2006, and would signal a further thaw in relations between the two nations.

Ties between Washington and Islamabad have improved in recent months. In a notable development, Trump hosted Pakistan's Chief of Army Staff, Field Marshal Asim Munir, at the White House last month — an unusual gesture widely seen as a sign of warming bilateral relations.

The White House has not yet commented on the reports.
