Trump officially nominated for Nobel Peace Prize
U.S. President Donald Trump has been officially nominated for the Nobel Peace Prize, with U.S. Congressman Buddy Carter citing his role in brokering a ceasefire between Israel and Iran, reports Reuters.
In a letter submitted to the Norwegian Nobel Committee on Tuesday ( June 25), Rep. Carter (R-GA) wrote that Trump's "extraordinary role in implementing the historic agreement to end the armed conflict" marked a major step toward global peace. "What seemed impossible to many has become reality under President Trump's leadership," the letter read.
Trump announced on Monday (June 23) that a ceasefire had been reached between Israel and Iran following weeks of escalating cross-border violence. While both countries have since accused each other of violating the truce, Trump's intervention has drawn attention from international observers for its diplomatic weight.
Carter further stated that Trump had taken "bold and effective steps to halt Iran’s nuclear ambitions," adding that the former president had ensured Iran "does not acquire nuclear capability."
Trump, who previously faced Nobel Peace Prize speculation for his role in the Abraham Accords, has received renewed attention amid the latest Middle East developments.
The recent ceasefire follows a sharp uptick in hostilities. On June 24, Israel launched strikes that reportedly killed seven members of Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC), including two senior generals. Iranian retaliatory missile attacks have left 24 Israelis dead, according to local media reports. Both military and civilian targets have sustained damage in the exchanges.
In parallel, the U.S. has claimed responsibility for airstrikes that destroyed three Iranian nuclear facilities. Tehran responded with a missile attack on a U.S. military installation in Qatar, heightening regional tensions.
