Trump removes 29 ambassadors appointed under Biden
The Trump administration in the United States is recalling ambassadors to 29 countries who were appointed during the previous President Joe Biden's term. They will be replaced with appointees who support the 'America First' policy.
Citing officials from two state departments, a report says ambassadors to at least 29 countries have been informed that their terms will conclude this coming January. All these ambassadors were appointed during the Biden administration.
The officials stated that those being relieved of their duties are not being removed from the foreign service entirely. They can return to Washington to take up other assignments if they wish.
The US State Department declined to comment on why the ambassadors are being affected in this way. However, they explained the change as a "routine process of any administration." They noted that ambassadors are the president's personal representatives, and the president has the right to appoint whomever he deems necessary.
According to observations, ambassadors from the African continent form the largest group on this list. Ambassadors from 13 countries are being recalled: Burundi, Cameroon, Cape Verde, Gabon, Ivory Coast, Madagascar, Mauritius, Niger, Nigeria, Rwanda, Senegal, Somalia, and Uganda.
Following this, ambassadors from six countries in Asia—Fiji, Laos, Marshall Islands, Papua New Guinea, the Philippines, and Vietnam—are being recalled. Additionally, four countries from Europe are on the list.
