US President Donald Trump has ruled out talks with Iran. In a post on social media on Tuesday (March 3) local time, he claimed that Iran had offered talks after the joint US-Israeli attack began, but now the time for talks with Iran is “past.”

Earlier, Trump had said that Iran’s new leadership had expressed interest in talks with the US administration and that he was also willing to talk. The White House later announced the matter.

However, the Iranian leadership has also dismissed the offer of talks with the US. Ali Larijani, the secretary of the country’s National Security Council, said in a post on social media, “We will not talk with America.”

Earlier, the Wall Street Journal reported that after the assassination of Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, Ali Larijani had pressed for renewed nuclear talks through mediators in Oman.

On February 28, the US and Israel launched a joint attack on Iran. The attack in Tehran killed several top officials, including Iran's Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei. In response, Iran is carrying out retaliatory attacks on US bases in the Middle East, including in Israel.
