US President Donald Trump has said the ceasefire with Iran remains in force despite renewed military exchanges between the two sides that have raised fears of escalating tensions in the Gulf region.

Speaking in a phone interview with ABC News on Thursday (May 7), Trump insisted that the truce was still holding. “The ceasefire is active. It remains in effect,” he said, while downplaying recent US strikes on Iranian targets as “just a little love tap.”

The remarks came after the US military confirmed carrying out strikes on several Iranian military installations, claiming the sites had been used to launch attacks against American naval vessels operating near the Strait of Hormuz.

Earlier, a spokesperson for Iran’s armed forces accused Washington of violating the ceasefire by targeting an Iranian oil tanker heading toward the strategic waterway.

The latest developments have intensified concerns over a possible renewed confrontation between Washington and Tehran, as tensions continue to simmer around the Strait of Hormuz, one of the world’s most critical energy transit routes.
