US President Donald Trump has claimed that a much-anticipated agreement with Iran could be signed as early as Sunday (June 14), but Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) has expressed skepticism, suggesting negotiations have not yet reached a final stage.

In a post on Truth Social on Saturday (13), Trump criticized the 2015 nuclear deal negotiated under former President Barack Obama, arguing that it failed to prevent Iran from advancing its nuclear ambitions. He said a new agreement under his administration would effectively block any path toward nuclear weapons development.

Trump also claimed that its implementation would help ensure the free flow of navigation through the Strait of Hormuz and pave the way for improved US-Iran relations.

The US president further asserted that Iran is not seeking to acquire nuclear weapons and stressed that Washington would not allow such a scenario under any circumstances. He expressed optimism that future cooperation between the two countries could contribute to greater peace and stability across the Middle East.

However, Iranian officials have not publicly confirmed that a deal is ready for signing.

Tehran indicated that key elements of the agreement remain unresolved despite Trump’s confidence about an imminent signing.

The IRGC has questioned the timeline put forward by Trump, noting that Iranian negotiators have yet to finalise the framework of any agreement.

The IRGC also suggested that Trump’s push for a rapid announcement may be politically motivated, pointing to his June 14 birthday and speculating that he could seek to present the agreement as a major political achievement.

The contrasting statements have fueled uncertainty over the prospects of a long waited breakthrough.
