Trump says Iran signals willingness to visit White House for talks
US President Donald Trump said Iranian negotiators have signaled a willingness to come to the White House for talks. He added, however, that the situation remains “difficult.”
Speaking to reporters on the North Lawn of the White House on Wednesday (June 18), Trump said, “Two simple words — unconditional surrender. Iran’s air defenses are down, so it’s unclear how long the conflict will continue.”
He also stated that Iran’s nuclear program has harmful intentions and must be stopped.
Although the door for talks is still open, Trump refused to directly answer whether the US would engage in war or take military action.
When asked if the US would go to war, he said: “I can’t say. I might, or I might not.”
This comment suggests Trump is unwilling to clarify whether the US is involved in the recent tensions over Iran.
According to analysts, Trump’s statements have made the Middle East situation more uncertain. While the sign of possible talks seems positive, his demand for “unconditional surrender” weakens that hope.
Iran has not officially responded yet.
