US President Donald Trump has said he is “not satisfied” with a new peace proposal submitted by Iran, as diplomatic efforts between Washington and Tehran remain stalled despite an ongoing ceasefire.

The draft proposal was reportedly delivered by Iran through Pakistan on Thursday, though its contents have not been disclosed, reports AFP.

Speaking to reporters, Trump confirmed receipt of the proposal but expressed dissatisfaction with its terms. “I am not satisfied with what they have proposed at this moment,” he said, adding that divisions within Iran’s leadership were contributing to the deadlock.

He further commented on the options facing the United States, saying, “Do we bomb them and end it forever, or try to make a deal? From a humanitarian standpoint, I would prefer not to choose the first option.”

The remarks come as indirect negotiations between the two sides have made little progress despite a fragile ceasefire that began on April 8, following weeks of heightened hostilities triggered by earlier US and Israeli strikes on Iran on February 28.

A round of talks held in Islamabad with Pakistan’s mediation failed to produce any breakthrough.

Meanwhile, Iran continues to maintain control over the strategic Strait of Hormuz, disrupting tanker traffic, while the United States has maintained restrictions targeting Iranian ports.

Additinally, regional instability persists in the wider Middle East. Despite a ceasefire agreement involving Iran-backed Hezbollah reached on April 17, Israeli strikes in southern Lebanon have continued. Lebanese authorities reported 12 deaths in recent attacks, including in areas that had reportedly received evacuation warnings shortly before the strikes.
