Trump selects Elon Musk to lead government efficiency department
US's newly-elected president Donald Trump announced on Tuesday that Elon Musk and former Republican presidential candidate Vivek Ramaswamy will head the newly established Department of Government Efficiency.
Trump said, "Musk will be appointed to break the bureaucracy and reduce wasteful government spending." He also announced that Republican leader Vivek Ramaswamy would join Musk in the same role.
According to AFP, Trump said in a statement on Tuesday that Elon Musk, CEO of Tesla and SpaceX, and American entrepreneur and Republican Party leader Vivek Ramaswamy will jointly lead the Office of Government Efficiency.
Trump said, "These two remarkable Americans will work together to break the bureaucracy, reduce excessive regulations, cut wasteful government spending, and pave the way for restructuring federal agencies. This is crucial for the 'Save America' movement."
Trump defeated his presidential opponent Kamala Harris by a wide margin. In his victory speech, he expressed gratitude to Elon Musk for his support, praising him as a "special person" and a "super genius."
