Trump slashes tariffs on India

US President Donald Trump has announced a reduction in tariffs on Indian goods exported to the United States from 25 percent to 18 percent.

Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi welcomed the announcement and thanked Trump.

In a post on social media platform Facebook on Monday, Modi said that he was happy to speak to Trump. On behalf of the people of India, he expressed gratitude to Trump for this decision.

Modi said that when two large economies and two largest democracies in the world work together, it brings benefits to the people and creates new opportunities for mutual cooperation.

Modi also said that Trump's leadership is important for global peace, stability and prosperity. India fully supports his initiatives in building peace.

Modi also expressed his desire to work closely with Trump to take the India-US partnership to new heights.
