Trump threatens legal action against BBC
U.S. President Donald Trump has threatened legal action against the BBC over a documentary he claims misrepresented his speeches, reports The Gaurdian.
Trump’s lawyers have given the broadcaster a November 14 deadline to “fully and fairly retract” the content, warning of a potential $10 billion lawsuit.
An internal BBC memo revealed that the Panorama programme edited two of Trump’s speeches in a way that implied he directly incited the January 2021 Capitol attack.
The controversy has already led to the resignations of BBC Director-General Tim Davie and news chief Deborah Turness.
BBC Chairman Samir Shah admitted Monday that the documentary contained “judgmental errors” and said the corporation would issue an apology.
Trump’s legal team, citing Florida law, alleges the documentary contained “false, defamatory, disparaging, and misleading statements” and demands appropriate compensation.
