US President Donald Trump on Friday (Jannuary 9) warned Iran of possible military action if security forces open fire on anti-government protesters, as unrest continued to spread across several cities.

Speaking from the White House, Trump said Iran faced “grave danger” and warned the United States would not remain passive if authorities use live ammunition against demonstrators.

“You’d better not shoot,” Trump said, adding that Washington could order direct military strikes if necessary.

His comments followed the circulation of videos showing protesters expanding their presence in multiple Iranian cities.

The Human Rights Activists News Agency (HRANA) said at least 62 people have been killed in nearly two weeks of unrest, including 48 protesters and 14 members of the security forces.

Iranian authorities have imposed internet shutdowns in several areas. Al Jazeera reported that police advised residents in parts of Tehran to avoid violence-prone zones, while semi-official Tasnim News Agency said security forces were preparing “firm and decisive action.”

In a televised address, Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei blamed the unrest on foreign enemies, particularly the United States, accusing demonstrators of attacking state property and warning against foreign-backed agitation.

President Masoud Pezeshkian called for dialogue and urged officials to address public grievances, though hardliners have rejected any concessions.

The Hengaw human rights group reported that security forces opened fire on a protest march after Friday prayers in the Baluch-majority city of Zahedan, wounding several people.

Trump said he wished protesters safety but described Iran as “the most dangerous place in the world” under current conditions.
