Trump warns of 50% tariffs on countries supplying arms to Iran

US President Donald Trump has warned that Washington will impose a 50 per cent tariff on imports from any country that supplies military weapons to Iran, in a sharply worded statement following a temporary ceasefire with Tehran.

In a post on his Truth Social platform on Wednesday night (April 8), Trump said the measure would take effect “immediately” and without exception against countries found to be providing arms to Iran.

The warning comes amid longstanding concerns over Iran’s military capabilities and allegations that countries such as China and Russia have supported Tehran with missile systems, air defense technology and dual-use equipment—claims both have denied in recent months.

The statement underscores Washington’s hardline stance on curbing military support to Iran, even as diplomatic efforts continue to ease regional tensions.
