Iran has rejected US President Donald Trump’s unilateral announcement to extend the ceasefire, calling it “meaningless” and warning of a possible military response if provoked.

Iran’s state broadcaster Islamic Republic of Iran Broadcasting reported that Tehran does not recognize the decision and will act according to its national interests.

In a reaction posted on X, Mehdi Mohammadi, an adviser to Iran’s parliament speaker, said the ceasefire extension was “meaningless” and warned that any disruption of maritime routes would be treated as an act of war requiring a military response.

He also alleged the move was intended to delay a potential surprise attack.

Earlier, Trump announced on Truth Social that the ceasefire with Iran would be extended indefinitely, stating it would remain in place until Iran submits a “coordinated proposal” and talks reach a final outcome. He also said the decision followed a request from Pakistan.

Separately, Iran has confirmed it will boycott the second round of ceasefire talks scheduled in Islamabad. The decision was communicated to Washington through mediator Pakistan, according to Tasnim News Agency.

Tehran described participation in the talks as “a waste of time,” citing limited prospects for a meaningful agreement under current conditions.
