Trump's ceasefire announcement 'terrible defeat' for US: Russia
Russia has described former US President Donald Trump's ceasefire announcement as a 'terrible defeat' for the US. The country's Foreign Ministry said that Washington's 'unilateral and provocative' military strategy against Iran has completely failed.
Russian Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Maria Zakharova made the comments in an interview with state media Sputnik Radio on Tuesday (April 8).
She said that despite recent statements from the US that it was 'more aggressive and victory is very close', the situation in reality has been reversed. In her words, 'These declarations had no real basis, but have now turned into a terrible defeat.'
Zakharova also claimed that Russia has been opposing military aggression against Iran from the beginning and has emphasized a political and diplomatic solution. According to her, there is no military solution to such a crisis.
The report said that the US position in the ongoing conflict and military tension against Iran has created a new debate in the international arena. Russia has alleged that US policies have further complicated the situation.
However, there was no immediate response from the US or Donald Trump to Russia's comments.
According to analysts, such statements could further increase global geopolitical tensions and the situation in the Middle East could become unstable again.
