Trump’s childhood home in New York sells for $1.93m

US President Donald Trump’s childhood home in New York City has sold for $1.93 million after an extensive renovation transformed the once-deteriorating property into a modern residence.

Trump lived in the five-bedroom, three-bathroom Tudor-style house in Queens until he was four.

Built by his father, real estate developer Fred Trump, in 1940, the property is located in the Jamaica Estates neighbourhood and has not been owned by the Trump family for years.

The latest sale price appeared on real estate websites on Friday after an undisclosed buyer agreed to purchase the property in July. Developer Tommy Lin bought the house last year for $835,000 after it had remained vacant and fallen into disrepair.

Lin reportedly spent about $500,000 on an eight-month renovation, adding a chef’s kitchen, herringbone flooring and spa-style bathrooms.

The property previously sold for $2.14 million in 2017, shortly after Trump became president. It was later marketed as a Trump-themed attraction, including on Airbnb, before being relisted in 2019 for $2.9 million.

The house subsequently deteriorated, with reports of water damage, mould and feral cats taking shelter inside before Lin acquired it.

Trump built his fortune through real estate before entering politics and becoming president. His current residence, the White House, has also undergone major changes during his presidency, including plans for a large ballroom and ornate additions to the Oval Office.
