Turkey publicly backs Iran amid rising US tensions
Turkey has publicly opposed any military action against Iran, saying the country stands firmly against external intervention and supports a peaceful, Iran-led resolution to its internal issues.
Turkish Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan made the remarks on Friday after talks with his Iranian counterpart Abbas Araghchi in Istanbul, reports Anadolu Ajansi.
Speaking at a joint press conference, Fidan said Ankara has consistently conveyed to its partners that it rejects any military intervention targeting Iran.
“Any internal issues in Iran should be resolved peacefully by the Iranian people themselves, without foreign interference,” Fidan said.
His comments come amid heightened tensions between Tehran and Washington following the Iranian government’s crackdown on anti-government protests.
In recent days, the United States, under President Donald Trump, has deployed what it described as a “large naval force” near Iran, while urging Tehran to engage in talks to avoid potential conflict.
Iranian officials, however, have warned that any US attack would be met with a “swift and comprehensive” response, while maintaining that the door to negotiations remains open under what they described as fair, balanced and pressure-free conditions.
