Two Australian women cricketers harassed in Indore, accused arrested
Two Australian women cricketers were subjected to harassment in India’s Indore while participating in the World Cup. The incident occurred outside the Radisson Hotel on Thursday night.
According to local police, the two players were walking to a nearby café when a man on a motorcycle touched them inappropriately and made obscene gestures before fleeing the scene. Within six hours of receiving the complaint, police arrested the accused, identified as Akil.
Indore Crime Branch Commissioner Rajesh Dandotia said, “A complaint was lodged by the security officials of the Australian team. We acted swiftly, investigated the matter, and arrested the accused. He had prior complaints against him.”
Following the incident, Cricket Australia stated that the matter was being handled by local police and security officials. The Madhya Pradesh Cricket Association expressed deep regret over the incident and extended sympathy to the two cricketers who were harassed.
The Australian women’s team is currently playing in the group stage of the World Cup. They have won all their matches so far and have already secured a place in the semi-final. The team is scheduled to play South Africa today in Indore.
