Two Jamaat-e-Islami activists were beaten to death on suspicion of robbery in Satkania, Chattogram. At least five people sustained gunshot wounds in the incident, with two of them in critical condition. The incident took place around 10:00 PM on Monday (March 3) in the Chhankhola area of Eochia Union, Satkania Upazila.

The deceased have been identified as Nezam Uddin and Abu Saleq. Among them, Nezam Uddin had been living abroad for a long time and returned to the country on August 5. Although neither held any official position, both were known locally as Jamaat activists.

It is alleged that the two had been exerting influence in the area using political clout.

According to a local source, after the fall of the Awami League-led government on August 5, several groups began competing for influence in the area. On Monday night, one group lured Nezams to the Chan Khola area, after which another group announced through mosque loudspeakers that they were robbers and attacked them. The victims reportedly fired shots in response, but they were eventually beaten to death by the mob.

Meanwhile, Another source claimed that local residents surrounded a group of robbers, who opened fire while trying to escape, injuring five locals. Subsequently, the enraged crowd captured two individuals and beat them to death on the spot. Additionally, five injured individuals were initially taken to Chattogram Medical College Hospital (CMCH) but were later transferred by their relatives to Parkview Hospital in the city.

Confirming the incident, CMCH police outpost Sub-Inspector (SI) Alauddin Talukder stated that five individuals with gunshot wounds were brought to the hospital, but their identities could not be immediately determined. They were later moved to Parkview Hospital.

Chattogram District Superintendent of Police (SP) Saiful Islam Santu said, "We have recovered two bodies, but the details of the incident are not yet clear. An investigation is underway to determine the exact cause of the incident."
