Two held with weapon from Narendra Modi's event venue

Mumbai police have detained two people with a weapon from the venue of Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi's event. The incident occurred late at night on Monday (September 7). The information was reported by NDTV.

A report published on Tuesday (September 8) said the prime minister's event was organised at the Nita Mukesh Ambani Cultural Centre in Mumbai's Bandra-Kurla Complex. Police detained a man seen moving around suspiciously there, along with his bodyguard. A gun was recovered from the bodyguard.

Police said the detained man, 24-year-old Rohan Parekh, identified himself as an official of the Prime Minister's Office (PMO). However, upon verification, the PMO identity card he carried was found to be fake.

A police statement said three people used a suspicious government identity card and, carrying a firearm, forced their way past the mall's security personnel into Jio World Plaza in Bandra-Kurla Complex. An FIR has been filed over the incident.

Police said the recovered weapon has a valid licence. Two people have been arrested in the incident. However, police clarified that the incident took place on Monday and has no connection with Prime Minister Narendra Modi's Mumbai visit on Tuesday.

A security alert was issued after the incident came to light in connection with the prime minister's Mumbai visit. Mumbai police are questioning the two arrested persons to find out the purpose behind entering the venue with a gun and a fake identity card.

Given the seriousness of the incident, the Mumbai Crime Branch has taken over the investigation.
