Two killed as microbus hits motorcycle in Cox's Bazar
Two motorcycle riders were killed and another critically injured after being hit by a microbus in Chakaria upazila of Cox's Bazar.
The accident took place around 9:00am on the Chakaria-Pekua Banowja road in Boroitali Union of the upazila on Sunday morning (June 28).
The deceased were identified as Mohammad Mahbub, 28, son of the late Abul Kalam, and Mohammad Rasel, 25, son of the late Kamal Hossain — both from Mohajerpara area of Boroitali Union. The injured, Mohammad Shahed, 25, is undergoing treatment at Chattogram Medical College Hospital.
According to police and local sources, all three were travelling together on a single motorcycle, with Mahbub at the handlebars and Rasel and Shahed riding pillion, when an oncoming microbus struck them head-on. The impact sent the motorcycle crashing into a roadside ditch, leaving all three critically wounded.
Local residents rushed to the scene and transported the injured to Chakaria Upazila Health Complex, where the attending physician declared Mahbub and Rasel dead on arrival. Shahed, whose condition was severe, was referred to Chattogram Medical College Hospital for further treatment.
Monir Hossain, officer-in-charge (OC) of Chakaria Police Station, confirmed the deaths, saying police reached the scene promptly and assisted in transporting the victims to hospital. Inquest reports for the two deceased have been prepared and their bodies handed over to their families upon request. Both the motorcycle and the microbus have been seized.
The OC added that legal action will be initiated upon receipt of a formal written complaint from the victims' families.
