Two more bodies recovered from abandoned community centre in Savar
Police have recovered two more burnt bodies from an abandoned community centre in Savar. Preliminary observations suggest that the bodies may belong to a woman and a male child.
The bodies were recovered on Sunday afternoon from inside the abandoned Savar Municipal Community Centre located in the Thana Road area of Savar municipality. The identities of the deceased could not be determined immediately.
Eyewitnesses said a student of Savar College entered the community centre to urinate and discovered the burnt bodies inside. He then called the national emergency number 999. Later, police from Savar Model Police Station arrived at the scene and recovered the bodies.
Officer-in-Charge (Operations) of Savar Model Police Station, Helal Uddin, said the bodies were severely burnt, making identification difficult. He added that the matter is being investigated with utmost importance and police are working to determine the actual cause of the incident.
It is noteworthy that multiple bodies have previously been recovered from the same abandoned community centre. On the night of August 29 last year, the body of an unidentified young man with his hands and feet tied was found there. Later, on October 11, the half-naked body of an unidentified woman was recovered from the same location. Most recently, on December 19, police recovered the body of a man from a second-floor toilet of the community centre. Law enforcement agencies have so far failed to identify the victims in any of these cases.
