Two seats are challenging for Awami League

Before the Ninth National Assembly Elections, Dhaka had a total of 13 seats. However, an additional seven seats were added to Dhaka's representation in the elections. Consequently, after 2008, the polling in these seats became less congested. Despite the Awami League having a relatively advantageous position in the seats after BNP boycotted the vote, the ruling party may face challenges in two seats.
 
Elias Molla in Dhaka-16
Dhaka-16 Constituency comprises of Ward no 2,3,4,5,6 of DNCC. Historically, the Awami League has maintained a stronghold in this region. Elias Uddin Mollah, a three-time member of the parliament, has been representing this constituency since the 9th National Parliament Election in 2008 as an Awami League candidate. In the upcoming election, Elias Uddin Mollah will once again be the Awami League's candidate. However, he will face competition from other candidates such as Amanat Hussain from the Jatiya Party (Plow), Sajeeb Kaiser (Television) from the Nationalist Front-BNF, Touhidul Islam (Ektara) from the Bangladesh Supreme Party, Tariqul Islam (Mango) of the National People's NPP, and independent candidate Salahuddin Rabin (Eagle). The total number of voters in Dhaka 16 is 388,245, with 195,692 male voters, 192,544 female voters, and 9 third gender voters. In the 2018 11th National Assembly Elections, Elias Uddin Mollah emerged victorious and was elected as the Member of Parliament from this constituency, defeating his opponent Ahsan Ullah Hasan from the BNP. Sardar Md Mannan, an independent candidate, posed as the closest rival to Elias Uddin Mollah, representing the Awami League. It is worth mentioning that Elias Uddin Mollah had previously served as a Member of Parliament in the 9th National Parliament Election, where he competed against Rafiqul Islam from the BNP for the same seat.
 
Arafat in Dhaka-17
Actor Akbar Hossain Pathan, popularly known as Farooq, is a well-known figure in the country. In 2018, he was elected as a member of the parliament from Dhaka-17. This constituency covers the Gulshan, Banani, and Cantonment areas, which are among the most frequented areas in Dhaka. The elections in this area have been historically conducted by former president HM Ershad since 2008. However, in 2014, the Awami League decided to leave the seat to BNF. After Farooq's unfortunate demise on May 15 last year, Mohammad Ali Arafat was nominated to fill the vacant seat. Arafat, belonging to the Awami intellectual class, has been actively involved in shaping public opinion on behalf of the Awami League. It is well-known that he shares a close relationship with important members of the Sheikh family, apart from Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina. This constituency includes the Dhaka Cantonment area, as well as wards 15, 18, 19, and 20 of the Dhaka North City Corporation. The total population of this constituency is 323,935, with 1,070,783 male voters, 153,147 female voters, and 5 third gender voters. The candidates running for election in this constituency are Mohammad Ali Arafat from the Awami League (symbol: boat), S M Abul Kalam Azad from the Nationalist Front-BNF (symbol: television), Ainul Haque from Alternative Bangladesh (symbol: kula), independent candidate Arafat Ashwad Islam (symbol: balloon), Kazi Shafiul Bashar from Trinamool BNP (symbol: Sonali Ansh), Ghulam Farooq Majnu from the National People's Party-NPP (symbol: mango), and Shah Alam from the Bangladesh Supreme Party (symbol: ekstara). In the 11th National Assembly elections, Farooq emerged victorious over Andaleeb Rahman Partho, the leader of Bangladesh Jatiya Party (BGP). However, during the polling day, Partho unexpectedly announced his withdrawal from the race. In the previous 10th National Assembly elections, S M Abul Kalam Azad from BNF secured the position of Member of Parliament from the same constituency. His closest competitor was the independent candidate M A Hannan Mridha. In the 9th national parliament election, Hussain Md. Ershad was elected as the representative from this seat. Unfortunately, Hannan Shah, a once influential leader of BNP, also faced defeat in this election.
 
Concerns over alliance's triumph in Dhaka-18
Sherifa Quader, the wife of Jatiya Party Chairman GM Quader, has been nominated by the Awami League for the Dhaka-18 seat. While being an advisor to GM Quader in the Jatiya Party, Sherifa Quader is also the district unit JaPa president. Md Habibur Rahman, who was previously a member of the parliament for a reserved seat, has withdrawn his nomination and is now contesting for a parliamentary seat through direct voting. The Dhaka North City Corporation, along with Dhaka Airport Upazila, encompasses the areas of 01, 17, 43, 44, 45, 46, 47, 48, 49, 50, 51, 52, 53, 54 wards. Various candidates from different parties are competing for this seat, including Dayal Kumar Barua (Wristwatch) from Kalyan Party, SM Abul Kalam Azad (Television) from Nationalist Front-BNF, Zakir Hossain Bhuiyan (Mango) from National People's Party-NPP, Fahmida Haque Sukanya (stick) from Sankritik Muktijot-Muktijot, Mohammad Mofizur Rahman (Sonali Ansh) from Trinamool, independent candidates Bashir Uddin Eagle, Nazim Uddin (Mora), Tofazzel Hossain (Truck), and Khosru Chowdhury (kettle) all contesting in the upcoming election. The constituency has a total of 588,608 voters, consisting of 301,909 male voters, 286,693 female voters, and 6 voters of the third sex. Despite the Awami League withdrawing its boat candidate, there is a strong independent candidate from the party who is not willing to concede any ground to Sherifa Quader in the electoral arena. This situation creates a complex equation in the 18 constituencies of Dhaka.
 
Murad Jung or Enamur Rahman in Dhaka-19
Following the Rana Plaza tragedy, Dr Enamur Rahman from Enam Medical College Hospital stood alongside the victims. Enamur Rahman, who was nominated by the Awami League, was elected as a member of the parliament for this constituency in 2014. He was re-elected in 2018, but faced a challenge from Murad Jung, an independent candidate supported by the Awami League. This constituency includes the Aminbazar, Tetuljha, Bhakurta, and Kaundia unions of Savar upazila. The total number of voters in this constituency is 756,419, with 387,469 male voters, 368,937 female voters, and 13 third gender voters. Various political parties and candidates are participating in the election. Mahabubul Hasan, representing Trinamool BNP, is using the symbol of gold scales. Milon Kumar Bhanj, from the Bangladesh Congress, is using Dub symbol. Muhammad Saiful Islam, an independent candidate, is using the symbol of a truck. Nurul Amin, representing Ganafront, is using the fish symbol. Israfil Hossain Savari, from the National People's Party-NPP, is using the mango symbol. Julhas, from the Bangladesh Supreme Party, is using their Ektara symbol. Saiful Islam, a member of the nationalist movement-BNM, is using the anchor symbol. Irene Parveen, from Bangladesh Jatiya Party, is using the jackal symbol.
 
 Benazir in Dhaka- 20
Benazir served as a member of the parliament for the Awami League in the Dhaka-20 Constituency in both 2008 and 2018, although he did not win the election in 2014. The Dhaka-20 Constituency, which includes Dhamrai Upazila, is widely recognized as a stronghold for the Awami League. In the 2014 election, the Awami League candidate, M A Malek, was elected unopposed from this seat. However, this time too Benazir has been challenged by former Member of Parliament M A Malek.  This time he challenged party candidate Benazir with the truck symbol. Other candidates in this election included Mohaddesh Hossain, who ran independently with the scissors symbol, Khan Mohammad Israfil from the Jatiya Party with the plow symbol, Minhaj Uddin from the Bangladesh Supreme Party with the Ektara symbol, and Sultana Rebecca from the National People's Party-NPP with the mango symbol. The total number of eligible voters in this constituency is 320,145, with 158,460 men and 161,685 women. There are no registered voters who identify as a third gender.
