Two members of Sri Lanka’s Under-19 cricket team have been arrested on allegations of secretly filming women at a hotel in Colombo, according to media reports.

Sports outlet ESPNcricinfo reported that the arrests followed complaints lodged earlier this week by women staying at a hotel in Narahenpita, where the junior cricketers had also been accommodated. The allegation states that the accused secretly recorded videos inside a bathroom.

Police later released the two players on bail set at 5,00,000 Sri Lankan rupees each. Law enforcement authorities said an investigation is ongoing to determine whether any of the recorded footage was distributed online.

The two players were produced before the Aluthkade Magistrate’s Court, which scheduled the next hearing for May 25.

The incident comes amid a period of upheaval in Sri Lanka Cricket, where recent administrative changes have seen the resignation of the board’s president Shammi Silva and the formation of a nine-member transformation committee led by former captain Kumar Sangakkara.

The cricket board has yet to announce any disciplinary action against the accused players.
