Two-Day Intensive Workshop on Bancassurance Begins at the University of Dhaka

A two-day intensive workshop titled "Bancassurance in Bangladesh: Regulatory, Operational & Sales Readiness" has commenced at the University of Dhaka with the aim of strengthening coordination between the banking and insurance sectors, expanding customer-focused insurance services, and enhancing the professional capacity of officials involved in bancassurance operations.

The workshop is jointly organized by the Master of Professional Banking (MPB) Program of the Department of Banking and Insurance, Faculty of Business Studies, University of Dhaka, and Bankers Club of Bangladesh Limited. It is being held on 10 and 11 July 2026 at the Professor Dr. Abdullah Farouk Multipurpose Hall on the 9th Floor of the Faculty of Business Studies, University of Dhaka.
The inaugural ceremony was held at 3:00 PM on Friday. Professor Dr. Mahmood Osman Imam, Dean of the Faculty of Business Studies, University of Dhaka, attended the event as Chief Guest. Professor Dr. Shahidul Islam Zahid, Chairman of the Department of Banking and Insurance, attended as Special Guest, while Professor Dr. Md. Main Uddin of the Department of Banking and Insurance attended as Guest of Honor.

Md. Rashed Akter, President of Bankers Club of Bangladesh Limited, Professor Dr. Abdullah Al Mahmud, Coordinator of the MPB Program, and Mr. Mohammad Mostafizur Rahman (Aryan), Learning Development Secretary of Bankers Club of Bangladesh Limited, were also present. In their remarks, the distinguished guests highlighted the importance of bancassurance in advancing financial inclusion, broadening access to insurance services, and ensuring suitable, reliable, and customer-friendly insurance products through the banking network.

The workshop comprises eight specialized sessions. The first day focuses on the bancassurance landscape in Bangladesh, the regulatory framework of the Insurance Development and Regulatory Authority and Bangladesh Bank, partnership models and agreement structuring, and the suitability of insurance products for different customer segments.

The second day addresses operational readiness, bank-insurer technology integration, KYC and anti-money-laundering compliance, premium collection, claims processing, risk management, consumer protection, prevention of mis-selling, sales-force readiness, launch planning, and the development of measurable key performance indicators for sustainable bancassurance growth.

Faculty members of the University of Dhaka, senior officials of Bangladesh Bank, and experienced professionals from leading banks and insurance institutions are serving as facilitators and resource persons. They include Professor Dr. Md. Main Uddin, Mohammad Ashfaqur Rahman, S. M. Ibrahim Hossain, Shubasish Barua, Mohammad Mahbub Hossain, Professor Dr. Hasina Sheykh, Md. Rashed Akter, and Subir Kumar Kundu.

Alongside expert presentations, the workshop features Bangladesh-specific case studies, group discussions, role-play exercises, regulatory document reviews, peer learning, and team presentations. Participants are also being provided with practical resources, including a Bancassurance Launch Checklist, KPI Dashboard, and Product Suitability Matrix.

The organizers expect the workshop to equip participants with a practical understanding of regulatory requirements, compliant partnership agreements, operational and technological infrastructure, risk and consumer-protection frameworks, ethical consultative selling, and the preparation of a sustainable bancassurance launch roadmap.

Certificates will be distributed to the successful participants on 17 July 2026.
