Uber India and South Asia chief Prabhjeet Singh resigns
Prabhjeet Singh, president of Uber India and South Asia, has resigned from the ride-hailing company, marking the end of his 10-year tenure. Singh, who joined Uber in August 2015 as general manager and head of strategy, was elevated to the regional president role in June 2020 .
An Uber spokesperson confirmed the development, stating, "India is one of Uber's most important markets globally, an important driver of innovation and long-term growth. The strength of our business today reflects the incredible team and foundation built over the years. We thank Prabhjeet for his leadership and lasting contributions during his decade-long journey with Uber. We remain deeply committed to our next phase of growth in India."
While Uber has not yet announced a successor, industry sources suggest Singh may be headed to a "frontier tech" company. Singh himself wrote in an email to employees, "Over the past few weeks, I made the difficult decision to leave Uber to pursue an opportunity in frontier technology. It wasn't a decision to leave Uber as much as it was a decision to run toward something I couldn't ignore."
Prior to Uber, Singh was an associate partner at McKinsey & Company. Uber is expected to outline its leadership transition plans in the coming weeks.
