Ukraine must give up some territory to Russia to end war: Trump
US President Donald Trump has said that Ukraine must give up some territory to Russia in order to end the Russia-Ukraine war. On Friday (August 15), after a long meeting with Russian President Vladimir Putin, he hinted at this.
At a joint press conference after the meeting, Trump said that although the two leaders agreed on several issues, they could not reach an understanding on some major points. As a result, no agreement was signed.
Later, in an interview with Fox News, Trump said, “The Russia-Ukraine war will end with Ukraine giving some land to Russia and with US security guarantees. We discussed these issues and agreed on many things.”
He also added, “I think we are very close to ending the war. Ukraine has to accept this reality.”
In the interview, Trump described Russian President Vladimir Putin as “strong” and “tough.” However, he claimed the meeting was “very warm and positive.”
When asked if he had any advice for Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky, Trump simply said, “Make a peace deal.”
