UN condemns Israeli attack on Gaza hospital

United Nations Secretary-General Antonio Guterres said he was "horrified" by hundreds of people killed in Tuesday's strike on a Gaza hospital. He strongly condemned the attack and expressed his condolences to the families of the victims.

Antonio Guterres also said in a post on social media X (Twitter) on Tuesday that international law requires ensuring the safety of all hospitals and medical workers.

The airstrike took place at Al-Ahli Al-Arabi Hospital in Gaza City at around 8:30pm local time yesterday. Hamas and Israel are blaming each other for this incident.

The Ministry of Health in the Hamas-controlled Gaza Strip says the Israeli army carried out the airstrikes. On the other hand, the Israeli Defense Forces claimed in a post on X that the rocket fired by Hamas targeting Israel fell on the hospital. In the post on X, Guterres wrote that international law requires the protection of all hospitals and medical personnel.

Earlier yesterday, Guterres also condemned the attack on a school run by UNRWA. His spokesperson confirmed this information in a statement. On October 7, Hamas fired thousands of rockets from Gaza into Israel. At the same time, Hamas fighters crossed the border and entered the territory of Israel. They arrested many Israelis, including foreign nationals, and took them to Gaza. In response, Israel launched a counterattack from October 7. Since then they have been carrying out continuous airstrikes on Gaza, humanitarian crisis has emerged in besieged Gaza.
