UN Security Council ineffective, says Brazil’s President Lula
Brazilian President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva has criticised the UN Security Council as “practically paralyzed,” saying major wars are being waged by member countries without accountability.
He made the remarks on Saturday (October 25) in Kuala Lumpur after meeting Malaysian Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim, questioning the silence of powerful nations amid the humanitarian crisis in Gaza.
Lula also condemned major powers for failing to honor climate change commitments, disproportionately affecting poor populations.
On a three-day official visit to Malaysia, Lula will attend the ASEAN Summit and meet US President Donald Trump.
Malaysian PM Anwar Ibrahim praised Lula as a leader advocating for workers’ rights, social justice, and humanity. The two leaders agreed to strengthen cooperation in trade, investment, energy, food and agriculture, education, culture, and technology.
